ARBITRATION COURT.

[by TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington , Wednesday. The hearing of a charge of enforcement of the limber yards and sawmills award against the Stewart Timber, ' Glass, and Hardware Company, was resumed before the Arbitration Court to-day, the point at issue being whether certain men classed as "yard labourers" were "yardmen" by reason of the fact that they measured timber before delivery to customers, and before the final checking by the yardman. The Court heard evidence and reserved its decision. The employers affected by the cooks and waiters' award applied to have two amend* ments made. The first was in connection with the waiters under the award. Where there were three or more employed, the wages of the first three were fixed, but no regulation was made for hotel waiters other than those. In the clause relating to cooks provision had been made for three classes, and "others" at the lower rate. The applicants considered that the lack ot similar provision for waiters was duo to inadvertence. Application was also made for an alteration in the provisions relating to the employment of waiters and waitresses as probationers in hotels. It was contended that the probation clauses should come under the general provisions applicable to all classes of workers under the award. Decision was reserved. VOTING FOR THE LABOUR MEMBER.
