A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. o THIS Mayor of Auckland (Mr. A. M. The weather was in keeping with the occasion, and contributed largely to the success of the function. Strings of flag- were suspended between the higher trees, and these afforded a pleasing contrast to the wealth of green, in which a, profusion of tree ferns were a striking feature. A dainty setting and a delicate colouring was lent the whole picture by the bright summer attire of the ladies here and (here on i\w. network of naths leading tip and down the grounds. The floral decorations were carried oils in exquisite taste, the poles being wreathed with flower- and ferns, which" together with the decoration of the tables, had a charming effect. Burke's string band and the First Battalion Band discoursed sweet melody during the afternoon, and altogether the gathering was one of the most successful of its kind yet held in Auckland.
