Mr. G. McKinney, of Epsom, who has been in indifferent health for the past few weeks, left by the Ngapuhi, en route , tor Kamo, hist night.
Messrs. W. Mason Bayly and J. 15. Glarkson, of l'abnerston North, left by the Talune for Suva yesterday, on a visit to the United States and England.
Mr. Patrick Keenan has been presented with a handsome marble-clock by his fellow officers in the Lands Department, Auckland, on the eve of his marriage.
Professor D. K. Picket], the new mathematical instructor at Victoria College, arrived in Wellington by the Rimutaka last week. He is accompanied by his wife, who is an M.A. of Glasgow University.
Mr. P. R. Le Contour, aged 22. of the Queen's College., Melbourne, has been selected as the Victorian Rhodes scholar for this year. The only other candidate was Mr. G. Hazlitt, the well-known Australian representative cricketer.
Mr. Hugo Gorlitz, the husband of Madame Amy Sherwin, and who was lor many years manager for Paderewski, and discovered and brought out Kubelik, the great violinist, is at present managing a piano business in Timaru.
Mr. H. B. Crawford, solicitor, died at Hamilton on Tuesday night. Deceased, who took -i keen interest in local affairs, was 67 years of age, and resided for many years at- Oamaru. He leaves a widow and four children.
Mr. C. Colebrook, formerly landing surveyor in the Wellington Customs Office, and recently appointed to.the position of Collec.or of Customs at Timaru, is resigning from the Government service to commence business as a Customhouse agent in Auckland on his own account.
