"It redounds to the credit of Sheffield (says the Sheffield Daily Independent) that Hadfield's and Edgar Allen's have been able to take the leading positions in the world in the manufacture of tramway,lay-outs, and points and crossings. . Everywhere there are tramways nowadays, and it is recognised that if the best*"essentials are needed either of the two Sheffield firms named must be called upon. _ The only formidable competitor was America, hut tho American firms have had to take a back seat, and acknowledge that they cannot rank with Sheffield. This has meant, millions of pounds to Sheffield's credit, and it will mean very much more as time goes on. It should be borne in mind that Sheffield beats America in face of the 45 per cent, duty which has to bo paid on this class of material imported into the United States. No better evidence of Sheffield's superiority ovei - America in this direction is to be found than in the fact that at the present time Messrs. Edgar Allen and Co. are completing a big contract for manganese east steel rails for the line which, the Hudson River Company are laying under . the Hudson River, and, further, are about to deliver to the Ncwcastlo-on-Tyno Corporation an immense lay-out which is in part to supplant material from America, which has been found to be unsatisfactory. Lay-outs have also been completed for Leeds and Liverpool, and points and crossings for electric tramways, undertakings in Franco, Italy, Spain. China, Japan, and New Zealand." , KAMO STOCK SALE.
