THE BUTTER MARKET.
_ oSHIPMENTS TO BE RETURNED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington", Wednesday. The Dominion's Mastcrton correspondent telegraphs as follows: "The threatened exhaustion of the butter market in the Dominion is amply shown by the fact that the New Zealand Farmers' Dairy Union to-day cabled to England to make arrangements for the return of its two previous shipments, numbering 1700 ooxes, to this country. During February, the union's manufactured butter output decreased by nearly 50 per cent., as compared with February of last year, the figures being 105 and 56 tons respectively. At the present time the union is not manufacturing enough butter for local consumption, and to make matters worse its 20 creameries are to close down in the course of the next two weeks. Several farmers are now sending their milk to Wellington, at 8d a gallon, which means almost Is 9d per lb for butter."
