RESTRICTING IMMIGRATION
EFFECT IN VANCOUVER.
"AN ABSURD MUDDLE."
By Telegraph.— Association.— Uopjrigrht.
London, March 16. The Vancouver correspondent of thfe Times states that the immigration situation is becoming an absurd and dangerous muddle. The Supreme Court, he points out has discharged 18 Hindoos, charged with being prohibited immigrants, on the ground that the Immigration Restriction Act passed by the Legislature of British Columbia is ultra vires, yet a German, who is quite a desirable immigrant, has been refused admission because In came from Australia. The attempt to prevent the grant ing of naturalisation papers to Japanese fishermen is causing more indignation among the .Japanese than any other anti-Japanese movement on the part of the British Columbian Government.
