OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.
SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES
IS AN INCENDIARY ABROAD?
A fir", broke out early yesterday morning in the premises occupied by Mr. F. Borgolte, in Park Road, Newmarket. Everything appeared safe the previous evening when Mr. Borgolte retired to bed, but at half-past four yesterday morning he was awakened by his wife, and found that his wash-house and stable adjoining were on fire. The alarm was given and the City Fire Brigade, quickly arrived upon the scene, having the flames subdued by the time the Newmarket brigade made its appearance. The outbuildings were totally destroyed, together with a cart and gig. Mr. Borgolte estimates the loss at £155, which, with the exception of the loss of the vehicles, is covered by a policy with the United Insurance Company. 1 The origin of the fire is unknown, but there is a suggestion that it was due to the visit of an incendiary. It is also suspected that the fire which occurred at the residence of Mr. Leo. Myers, at the corner of Park and Carlton Gore Roads, on Sunday morning, was the work of a fire raiser, the flames having originated near the study where, so far as is known, no fire had ever been. Both fires occurred in the same locality, and at. about the same hour in the morning. Yesterday afternoon a further discovery was made, which lends colour to tho assumption that an incendiary is abroad. On going into her wash-house, a housewife in the same locality discovered that the boards in one corner had been saturated with kerosene. The matter was reported to the police. FIRES IN THE SOUTH.
