Thr annual meeting of the Waihi branch of the St. John Ambulance Association was held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening, the Mayor (Mr. Thomas Gilmour) presiding over a good attendance. .' The chairman, in the course of. his remarks, congratulated the students on the success attained during the past year and expressed a hope that the excellent record would be improved upon during the incoming 12 months. No less than '10 members notified their intention of attending the ."classes The Mayor was elected president, Mrs. Harrison and Messrs. Johnston and Everard, vice-presidents, and a strong committee was formed to control the work of the society during the year just being entered upon. ' The work is of considerable value to those engaged in mining pursuits, an occupation at which the workers are more liable to accident than in many other callings. The three candidates for the Mayoralty of Waihi, Messrs. T. Gilmour (present Mayor), D. Donaldson and J. Newth have announced their intention of going to the poll. Mr. Norton Beuge, second eon of Mr. A. 11. Beuge, headmaster of the Waihi District High School, has been notified of his transference from the Paiea post office to the Waihi office. OTAHDHU. [FROM OUR OWN CORHESrOSDKXT.] A successful national concert in aid of the funds of the Catholic Church, was given on Monday, the attendance being large. The opening overture was plaved' by Mr.;. Andrews and Miss Burriside, the other contributors to a somewhat lengthy programme being Mrs. Barry, Misses Carson (2j, Chapman, Foreman, Goodwill, and Ryan, Messrs. p. Madigan, Stagpole, Ferguson, Blackburn, I'mvcll, Hughes, Walsh, and Kyle. The Highland '/ling was- danced by Misses Bronnan and Smith, and the pupils of the convent contributed several enjoyable items. At a recent meeting of the Luke Memorial Committee the collectors announced a total contribution to date of over £26. Several collectors were absent, and it is expected that at the next meeting a most encouraging response to the request for contributions will be received. RHEUMO CONQUERS RHEUMATISM. MR. 11. G.
