THE RAINFALL
DROUGHT BROKEN UP

Taihafe, Thursday. Tmk drought is entirely broken up in this district. Heavy rain fell throughout last night and again this morning. The fires had shown signs of reviving here, and at Waimurino, hut. they were soon effectively quenched by the rain. Napier, Thursday. There was a welcome change of weather during the night, several showers falling, and the outlook is promising. Eltham, Thursday. Last night 2.26 inches of rain fell. From Christmas to the end of February only 1.89 inches fell. Nelson", Thursday. Further general rain has fallen, and the drought is broken up. Streams are running again, and winter feed is assured good growth. Timaru, Thursday. Rain, which set in on Monday morning, still continues. Up to nine, o'clock this morning the total fall was 3.55 inches. C i in v ka:h, Thursday. The weather is still damp, with occasional showers. The sky is densely overcast, and a heavy downpour is looked for. The outlook is more promising, but the rain has not yet been copious enough for great and substantial good.
