HARBOUR BOARD ELECTION.

CITY COUNCIL'S REPRESENTATIVE. A' notice was received by the City Council last evening of the resignation of Mr. C. J. Parr of his position as a representative of the Council on the Auckland Harbour Board. Mr. Pi. Farrell then nominated Mr. A. E. Glover for the vacancy, Mi'. M. Casey nominated Mr. J. Court, and Mr. Entrican proposed Mr. ■ .M. Smeeton. The Council went into committee for the ballot, and upon resuming it was reported that Mr. Clover had received the highest number of votes, and he was therefore declared elected. The Mayor, in moving a vote of thanks to Mr. Parr for his services while on the Board, said that he (Mr. Parr) had seen four years' service in harbour matters, and the Council had been very pleased with the able manner in which.he had represented the Council. He felt sure the Board would • regret losing Mr. Parr's services. (Applause.) Mr. R. Tudehope seconded the motion, which was carried by acclamation.' In returning thanks, Mr. Parr said the Harbour Board, during his term of office, had entered upon many important works, and had also decided on the important question of building wharves in ferro-con-crete. Ho believed the Board had done wisely, and that £erro-concrete was going to be the universal material.for wharves. While there were those who differed from tlio Board's engineer, Mr. Hamer, he felt that in Mr-.' Hamer the city had a most efficient and skilful engineer. He con sidered the work done by Mr. Hamer for the city of Auckland was an immense ' work. He (Mr. Parr). had been appointed solicitor to the Harbour Sinking Fund Commissioners, and, though not legally bound to resign from the Board, he felt it would be a better course to take. (Applause.) , • -,- :\. Mr. Glover briefly, returned thanks for his' election.
