Bishop, S.M., has received from the Governor his appointment as a Commissioner for the purpose inquiring into, : and reporting upon, thejffiianagemenb of the To Oranga Home. The commission sets forth that the Coinmissioner is to inquire and report as to "the management of the said school during the last two years, and in regard to the following matters : —(a) The suitability and efficacy.; of the methods adopted in tlie said school for the classification of the inmates in sections or grades for reformatory treatment; (b). the general treatment of the inmates, particularly as regards the methods of punish- r ment, having regard to humanity on the one hand and the maintenance of proper _ discipline on the other, and tyiy special' treatment as regards punishment to which : any particular inmates (whose case'may be brought before you" during your inquiry) may. have been subjected; (c); the'; duties of the /members*of the" staff, and* whether or not such duties and ' the con-| ditions under Which they are performed | entail .any /undue hardship; (dj the rela- ! j tions between the manager .and the staff j of attendants under her control 1 and the : : discretion or otherwise exercised by the j manager in respect of her dealings with ! such attendants." j Mr Bishop will open the inquiry on j ■ March. -2.
