ONEHUNGA COURTS.

The usual monthly sitting of the Onehumga Police and S.M. Courts took place yesterday, when Mr. R. W. Dyer, S.M., presided! Sergeant Rogers represented the police. . . Fire Raising.— .Wade, James Julings, Mark Brenuan, 'and Alfred King, four young men, were charged with firing the grass along the roadside at Cox's Gully, Arthur-street East, cm January 25. A plea of nob guilty was entered. For the prosecution evidence was given by Thomas Green,- F. and A. Morris, and the police. Wade, Jillings and Brennan gave evidence on their own behalf, til© latter stating that the fire was started owing to the accidental dropping of a lighted match by him. The magistrate ordered Brennan to pay the costs, £1 Os 6d, incurred by the fire brigade having to turn out, while the charges against Wade, King, and Jillings .were dismissed. Breach of By-law. —Mrs. E. Henshaw was cliarged, on the information of the town clerk, with a breach of the bylaws, by allowing a number of geese to wander at large in Arthur-street. There was no appearance of the defendant. A fine of ss, with costs 7s, was inflicted. A Nuisance.James W. ' Stockley, borough sanitary contractor, for whom Mr. W. E. Hackett appeared, pleaded guilty to a charge of carelessness in connection with his duties. A fine of 10s, with costs 7s, was inflicted.

Maintenance.—-Arthur Smith, a young man v/hom Mr. W. E. Hackett represented, was, on the application of Mr. F. W. Brookfield, ordered to pay 7s 6d per week towards the support of his illegitimate child, also the expenses of birth, etc., amounting to £26 17s, and costs £2 6s, Prohibited.—Richard Blackburn, a young man, was, on the application of his bro-ther-in-law, placed on the list of prohibited persons, the order to apply to the City, Manukau, Eden, and Parnell districts.

CIVIL CASES. , In the following cases, judgment was given for the plaintiffs by default: W. Morton, sen., v. Thomas Sharp, £4 12s s|d, and costs 3s j E. Howden v. Audrey (Onewhero), £9 19s 6d, and costs 15s; Dr. 11. Tresidder (Mr. Pilkington) v. Alfred Cropp, £2 Bs, and costs 8s; Same v. F. Speakm.an, 10s, and costs 3s; T. Wallace v. J. Marsh (Otahuhu), £1 os Sd, and costs 3s. '
