DAMAGE NEAR DANNEVIRKE. SAWMILLS IN DANGER. [BY TELEGRAPH.rEESS ASSOCIATION.) Dannevirke, Wednesday. During the last few days the bush fires have subsided somewhat,but this afternoon a fresh wind fanned up the flames in the Piripiri district, near Danrierirke. Considerable damage was done to the tramway at Holt's sawmill, and several bridges and 100 chains of tram line were destroyed. At Anderson, Son, and Co.'s mill the workmen's huts were destroyed, and the stables burnt, but the horses were saved. The mill was partially dismantled, but, there being no water it is in grave danger'. The country between here and Waipawa is terribly, dry and burnt up, and serious consequences will ensue unless rain comes soon. The farmers are suffering greatly through IoS3 of stock by fire, and are holding forced sales to prevent starvation.

A CREAMERY DESTROYED. [BT TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Feuding, Wednesday. The Apiti Dairy Company's creamery, at Table Flat, was destroyed by a bush five last night. The fires are still burning in the Apiti and Rangiwahia districts. There is no immediate danger, but unless rain comes or the wind keeps down there may bo serious damage within the next week.

SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Coi'.OHANBiVL, Wednesday. A large stable and hay loft at the rear of the Golconda Hotel, the property of Mr. John Lynch, was discovered to, be on fire about three p.m. to-day. The fire brigade, under Captain Derrett, was soon at work, the outbreak being confined to the hay loft, in which there wore stored about 18 tons of hay. Mr. Lynch cannot account for the fire, except by spontaneous combustion. The building, the upper part of which was much damaged, is reported to be insured in the National Fire Insurance Company. The fire brigade worked well, Mr. A. S. Ford rendering great assistance.
