" THE COMMON ENEMY." LAJ PATRAI'S DEPORTATION. By Telegraph — Press Association.—Copyright. Bombay, January 15. La J Patrai, the native editor, who was deported by the order of Mr. John Morley, Secretary of State for India, for publishing seditious articles, speaking at a meeting in Calcutta, announced his intention, of publishing a reply to Mr. Morley's charges. In the course of an inflammatory speech, he urged all patriots to unite against a common enemy, and to fight an unyielding battle against the prospect of political slavery in India. Surendranath- Bannerjee, who presided, described Laj Patrai's deportation as an insult to the whole country.
