MAORI FOOTBALLER'S DEATH
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dtjnedin, Thursday. The inquest at Port Chalmers to-day into the circumstances surrounding the death by drowning of John Taiaroa on New Year's E^'resulted in a verdict of accidentally drowned being returned. It was evident that in the darkness Taiaroa either tripped over a line, or slipped on the wet deck when making his way from the stern to the bow of the motor-boat, in order" to reach the landing-stage, and fell overboard, being car lied away by the strong current.
