[by telegraph.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Wellington, Thursday. Thk Minister for Mines (the Hon. J. Mc(Jov/an) told a Post reporter to-day that lie had never seen the Auckland provincial district looking so- well as during his recent visit. The mining industry was rather dull at Coromandel, he said, but there was a hopeful feeling among the people. There was not much change in mining matters at the Thames, but at Waihi and Karangahake. a good deal of gold was being obtained. " Settlement in various parts of the Auckland district," added Sir. McGowan, "is progressing at a. great rate, and never in the history of that part of the colony has there been such industrial activity."
