THE BURDENS OF THE FARMER.

Sir,—Tlicro are two Herns of news suK plied to tho public last week which shout* have been of groat intcrst to tho farming community. One was that the land Us iof tho current year is greater than last year by £102,000, and tho-other was that Mr. G"rigg, of Longbonch, had ; purchased 10,000 acres in Queensland. I don't know how long it will take tho, Now Zealand farmers to realise what is going on, tho* steadily and surely their burden* are being increased, until some of tho very best Of our settlors , are inclined to leavo this country of land tax and labour legislation to the singk-taxora and socialists who rim it A general election will take place ab tho end of this year. Is it too late, or is it any use to ask the settlors to send the faddists and adventurers back to private, life, and return men to Parliament who will provent the country from being ruined? IX tho settlors and their families Will not tako advantage of tho opportunity when »t offers, and pull together for fair play and good government, it will be a sorry .day 10* tho whole of the people of New Zealand. Setti-ek.
