THE NEWCASTLE "CREEP."
Although there have been no further movements noticeable on the hill at Newcastle as far as the residences are concerned, serious settlements have taken place at the Anglican Cathedral. The north wall has cracked through its whole thickness in several places, and in other parts of the .building the cracks are widening. The arch of. the porch has also opened out, and it has been found necessary to effect immediate temporary repairs. The solid concrete floor is cracking and lifting in several places. Mr. Robert- Wilkins, the architect, states that the massive western wall has sunk and gone slightly out of upright. All that can be done for the. present is to proceed with the work of.effecting repairs temporarily, and await developments. It is only a fortnight ago that other repairs were effected, principally to the barrel arches, which were made secure.
