SHIPPING AMALGAMATION.

Berlin, January 13. A working agreement has been arranged between the HamburgAmerican and Norddeutscher Lloyd shipping companies, under which competition between the two concerns will cease. The arrangements mean the virtual amalgamation of the two lines, whose aggregate shipping totals 1,652,430 tons. An acute rate-cutting war has been begun by the Atlantio lines, including the White Star and other members of the Pierponfc Morgan combine and the Hamburg-Ameri-can and Norddeutscher Lloyd lines. The Norddeutscher Lloyd"■ line has induced the Japanese shipping company, the Nippon Yusen Kaisha, to abandon competition in the ports of Singapore, Bangkok, Hongkong, Swatow a and Haihou
