CHINESE RAILWAYS.

Pekin, January 14. A contract has been signed here vesting in the Chinese Government the construction and control of the Tientsin-Yangstze Railway.
" European chief engineers are to advise in regard to the construction, and European auditors are to watch the interests of German and British bondholders, the syndicate being compensated for surrendering its profits under the original agreement of 1899.
A five million five per cent, loan has been arranged, £3,000,000 to be issued in 1908. Two thirds of the capital will be German and one third British, proportionately to the respective lengths of the section.
