MEETINGS.

DEVOXPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL. A MiETiso of the Devonport Borough Council was held last night, there being present: Tho Mayor (Mr. W. Handley), and Messrs. D. W. McLean, W. U. Timewell, E. J. Osborne, T. Cranch, Geo. MoKonzie, W. Wilding, R. H. Froude, G. Gribbin, and P. W. McCalhum.

Building Permits: Two building permits were granted— in Summer-street, and the other in High-street. Finance: The appended bank balances were reported by the town clerk:—General account, dr. £3187 15s; waterworks, cr. £1222 10s lOd; interest account, dr. No. 1 £74 12s Bd, No. 2 £106 8s 6ci, No. 3 cr. £305 15s, No. 4 dr. £67 Is 3d; deposit* account, cr. £382; waterworks loan account, dr. £4101 7s: Rangitoto Island domain account, cr. is 3d; Devonport Domain Board, dr. £49 15s 9d. The following amounts were passed for payment: Genera! account, £56 2s Id; waterworks, £20 18s sd; Devonport Domain, £5 8s 4d.' Rubbish Receptacles: Tho sanitary inspector (Mr. R. H. Riding) reported that he had placed four receptacles for rubbish in the borough at different points, viz., two on Marine Square, one in Victoria Road, and another near King Edward's Parade. Gas Mains: The assistant-secretary of the Auckland Gas Company (Mr. W. F. Stewart) wrote stating that in connection with the. lowering of the gas main at the corner of Albert Road and" Church-street, Devonport, he had given instructions for the wishes of the Council to be carried, out.

Half-holiday: The Mayor reported that the general feeling of the shopkeepers, in Devonport was that tho present day for the half-holiday (Wednesday) should be again observed. This was agreed to. Poundkeeper, etc.: Twenty-one applications were received for the position of poundkeeper, dog ranger, etc., and after consideration it was decided by ballot to appoint Mr. W. P. Biddle to the position.

EMPIRE VETERANS' " ASSOCIATION. The animal meeting of the Auckland branch of the Empire Veterans* 'Association was held in the Drill Hall last evening, there being a good attendance. _ Major Broun, vice-president, was in the chair. The committee, in presenting their seventh annual report, stated that the association still maintained its prosperous condition, both as regards finance and membership. During 'the year no less than 325 members had paid their annual fees, while 27 new members had joined, and 15 had been remoTed by death, the names of the latter being Charles Bishop, John Buckley, James Chapman, Joseph Grace, Geo. Lovegrove, Thomas McDonnell, Matthew MeGiness, Michael Quinn, James Rhind, Chas. Rase, Win. Shanaghau, Samuel Swain, John Thorburn, and Sidney Thorne. The usual parades and annual concert had been held during the year. Surgeon-Major Carolan had consented to examine and give to indingent members free of charge, while the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board had agreed to supply medicine free. . The committee had done their utmost to further the interests of the association during the year. The balance-sheet showed that the receipts during the year amounted to £124- 10s, and the expenditure to £41 8s 3d, leaving a balance in hand of £83 Is 9d. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President (permanent), Lord R-anfurly; vice-presidents, Major Broun and Captain H. Goodwyn-Aroher; secretary, Mr. O. B. King; treasurer, Captain H. Goodwyn-Archer; auditors, Captain Small and Mr. H. Wrigg; committee, Major S. C. Schofield, Captain J. S. Small, Captain F. W. Howard, Messrs. A. Brock, W. H. Churton, C. B. King, W. Over, W. Thorne, H. Wrigg, Diver, and Lieutenant J. Shaw. It was decided to register under the Unclassified Societies' Act. Votes of thanks were passed to the outgoing officers for their, services. PARNELL LODGE OF ODDFELLOWS. At a meeting of the Parnell Lodge of Oddfellows, M.U., the following gentlemen were installed as officers for the ensuing half-year: Noble Grand,. O. H. Nicholis; vice-grand, R. Stevenson; elective, secretary, R. H. Killip; Grand Master, Brother T. J. Forster; vice, Brother D. G.. Cameron, who now takes the 1 rank as Past"'Grand. The Noble Grand appointed Brother .1. T. G. "Wilson as his L.H.S., and Brother C. E. Wood as I.G. The Vice-Grand appointed as his supporters Brothers A. Kitchen and T. J. Gedye.

WYNYARD LODGE, No. 57; 1.0.0. F.

, The installation and investiture of officers of the Wynyard Lodge, No. 57, 1.0.0. F., took plaoe in the lodge-room, Eden Terrace, on Monday. The D.G.M., Brother It. Armiger, assisted by Past grands Brothers M. Hooper, Morrel, Proiide, Davis, and IJ, Armiger, carried out the installation ceremony. The following' officers were installed for the ensuing term:N.G., Brother G. A. Niold; V.G., Brother D. W. Doull; secretary, Brother H. A. Miles; treasurer, P.G. Brother W. Master congratulated the lodge on the great progress made during the last term, when some 46 now candidates were initiated. ONEHUNGA ODDFELLOWS. The annual "meeting of the brethren of Loyal Mamikan Lodge, No. 7479, 1.0.0. F., Manchester UnH.y, was held at the Foresters' Hall, Onohunga, last evening, when there was a largo muster. After the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, which showed marked progress both numerically and financially, the following officers were elected and. afterwards installed by.' Bro. \V.
