WHANGAREI ITEMS.
[BY telegraph.—own correspondent.} Whangabei, Wednesday. At the annual licensing meeting Mr. R. W. Dyer, S.M., presided, Messrs. J. D. McKenzie and O. Hawken being also on the Bench. The temporary transfer of accommodation license of the Ngumguru Hotel from 0 G. Taylor to \V. B. I'bottson was made permanent. 1& H. White, licensee. of the Settlers' Hotel, Wh&ngarei, was granted a conditional license for the publican's booth at the Whangarei races on January 10 and 11. All the houses of the district were reported upon favourably by tho police, the Bench expressing pleasure at this satisfactory condition of affairs. Mr. McGregor, flax-culture expert, arrived here last night from the North, where he has been ascertaining which variety of flax is best to cultivate for milling purposes.
