WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL
The ordinary meeting of the Waitemata City Council was held yesterday, when there were present: Messrs. Kerr-Taylor (chairman), Adams, Hatfield, Cochran, McLeod, Horton, Cadnoss, Dye, and O'Neill. Tenders: The tender of Gavin Shanks was accepted for grading and spreading 100 cubio yards of scoria at Kaukapakapa at 3s 8d per cubic yard Whangaparoa Roads: Tho Council resolved to spend £80 upon tho Whangaparoa roads forthwith. Government Grants: The district road engineer wrote urging that all money provided for grants in the current year's Estimates shquJd be expended before February next, thus avoiding the necessity of the Government voting old money. The clerk said he had made repeated application since Parliament had prorogued for authority to expend the grants, but was unable to obtain any satisfactory response. Half-holiday: It was resolved to recommend that the day for closing tho shops in tho country at one p.m. in terms of the Shops and Offices Act, 1904, be Thursday. Rate Defaulters: The Council decided to authorise the clerk to issue summonses to those ratepayers who are behind with their rates after December 31.
Moutatara: The chairman extended an invitation to the Council to visit Moutatara, West Coast, on January 2, with a view to generally inspecting the county works, and tho possibilities of the locality as a tourist resort.
Takapuna Tramway: The TakapunaTramway Company submitted a plan of the proposed route of tho line for the approval of the Council. It was stated that the tramway would traverse the existing,formation, and, with the exception of road-crossings, it would not interfere with the existing roadway. On the motion of Mr. Adams, who stated that the service would probably be available in 15 months, the plan was approved.
