SUICIDE OF AUSTRIAN.
TRAGEDY AT WAIUKU. THE SIGN OF THE CROSS. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WAtifKU, Wednesday. An Austrian named Petor Gojack, disappeared from camp on Monday morning last, leaving a piece of papei on the table with his name and the sign of the toss inscribed thereon. He took with him a doublebarrelled gun and some cartridges. Constable Moffatt -Mid a number of AURtrians made diligent search, and Gojack's body was -found this afternoon in some thick scrub a short distance from the camp. There was a gunshot wound in the body, and the gun was lying near by. Deceased had only beet' hero a few weeks, and was recently released from the mental hospital. DEATH RATHER THAN BLINDNESS. [BY TELEGRAI'H. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Hokitika, Wednesday. An Austrian, John Scopinich, a wellknown miner, was found dead this morning with his head in a basin of watei on the floor, and a heavy iron trunk in the back of his head. The case was evidently one of determined suicide. Deceased was getting gradually blind, and was to have been admitted during the afternoon to an institution.
