THE FLORAL FETE.

.Entries for the various competitive events iin connection with the floral fete, organised bv the Ladies' Benevolent Society, to be held at Ellerslie racecourse on Saturday next, closed yesterday. They were grati- ■ fyinglv large. For the procession of decorated vehicles, etc., considerably more will be competing than On any previous occasion Included in the entries for this event are motor cars, vehicles drawn by

goats (in hard training for weeks past), bicycles, buggies, gigs, dolls' prams, chit '• drens' vehicles, a gun carriage, and many others. One vehicle, a miniature landau, is to be drawn by 10 little boys, attired as Pierrots. The Mayor's carriage, which is being elaborately decorated, will lead the procession, and then will follow the com- '. petitors' vehicles, etc. For the baby show no less than 101 entries have been received, and for the posters' march upwards of 60. The following is the official order of the programme:—Quarter-past two, procession of vehicles, etc.; 2.40, children's procession; three, "pom-pom" march; 3.15, athletic display by boys of St. Stephen's , . school four, posters' march. The side shows- will include ocean wave-swings, Aboraah the giantess, • fortune-telling , tents, etc. Refreshments will be provided at numerous kiosks and a shop. The Ellerslie course and grounds are just Bow looking very beautiful, the trim lawns and verdant surroundings having an attracaspect. In addition the display of roses and pansies, which are in full bloom, Should prove enchanting to visitors. The whole of the arrangements reflect credit "Upon Miss "K. Nelson, 'the energetic arid ',' self-sacrificing hon. secretary, and upon the ~ ladies who are assisting her. Only fine weather and, of course, the generous patronage of the publicnever withheld from such a worthy cause as this —are . lequired to make the fete a huge success.
