An enjoyable social took place ,in' th« '■;'. Otaua Public .Hall on the 24th ult, th« function being in connection with the Otaui Football Club. During the evening *he senior caps of the Waiuk'ti' Rugbj Union, ' won by the Otaua Club, wore presented ;by ', Mr. A. M. Bamball, president of thy union. ;,.% Cheers were given for the victors, and Mr.. C. Motion, one of the vice-presidents, responded on- their behalf.

On Thursday evening a smoke concert in connection with the Wflfukti Rugby Union pj| was held in the Town Hall. Mr.* A. M. Barriball occupied the chair. A number of .' (lasts were honoured, interspersed with ■ songs and recitations. A pleasing part of ' I the programme was the presentation of the champion cups. The chairman presented;, ~'"' the Molloy, Herrold, and Potter senior cu;o of the Waiuku Ilugbv Union to the Otaua Club, and the vice-chairman (Mr. S. T. IloslxerK presented the junior cup, given by Mr. S. Perrin, to ■the Waiuku Club. Hearty cheers were given for die winning' teams. , The chairman also presented Mr. J. Bennett with the champion gold medal, won at tlifl % football race, and Mr. (J. Flavcll with a gold and silver medal for second place. The Waiuku Town Band was present,-and added to the enjoyment of the evening. n The Wamku' Mounted Rifles assembled on . . Dominion Day, Captain Bent being in command. Owing to the shorfcnes, <]£ the notice calling the parade, and the continual bad weather throwing the farmers behind with a ua" w «>rk, there was not a large muster. Staff-Sergeant-Major Bell was present. 'the stores and business places closed at 12 o'clock, but, a general holiday was not observed.
