ATHLETIC NOTES.

FOOTBALL. THE HAWKE'S BAY TOUR; [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRE 33 ASSOCIATION.] Napikr, Monday. The Hawke's Bay Rug-by Union has arranged the following fixtures of the touring team:—Auckland (Ranfurly Shield), August 10; Horpwhenua, August 14; Manawatu, August 17; Wairarapa, August 20; Poverty Bay, August 24. WAIUKU. The final match between the Otaua and Waipipi Football Clubs was ployed on Saturday, reting in a win for the former team by 11 points to nil. Mr. J. Bennett had charge of the game. This win secures for Otaua the championship for 1907, the club also being winners of the Molloy-Herrold cup. In the junior match, Otaua v. Waipipi, the former team won by 6 points to 3. Mr. E. Barriball acted as referee. The final match for the championship and Mr. Perrin's cup will be played between City and Otaua on Saturday next. Stewart (selector for the Thames Rugby Union) has chosen the following players to represent Thames in the return match against Auckland, to be played at the Thames on Saturday next :—Fullback. Newdick; threequarters, Floyd, McCollum, and Choate; five-eighths, Snowling and Keating; halfback, Dovell ; wing-for-ward, Autridge; forwards, Crawford, McKeown, Smith. Dunlop, Dengate, Hayward, and Clarke ; with F. Hayward, Molloy, Hitching, Griffen, and Williams as reserves. This selection shows several changes from the team which played in Auckland on Saturday last, and it is generally acknowledged that the team will be a stronger one and should make a better stand against the Auckland players. Marearoa defeated Mamaku by 5 points to nil on Saturday. (

BOWLING.

WAIUKU BOWLING AND TENNIS CLUB. At an extraordinary meeting of the Waiuku Bowling and Tennis Club the committee submitted a report detailing their operations since inauguration. The report was adopted with enthusiasm, as, although it is only a few months since the formation of a club at Waiuku was proposed, the membership now numbers 36. The club is laying down a. six-rink green close to the village on the same site as the asphalt tennis court. There is also a croquet lawn in course of construction and sufficient room is available for a pavilion. It is hoped that the green will .be ready for play early in December. The following were elected to office for the ensuing President, Mr. S. T. Rossiter; vice-presi-dents, Mr. J. Molloy, Mr. C. Motion, and Mr. .1. E. Makgill ; treasurer, Mr. A. M. Barriball; secretary, Mr. S. Pcrriu; auditor, Mr. 11. King; committee, Messrs. Eber, Barriball, R. A. Bent, J. 11. Hen-old, F. Parker, L. F. Shakespear, and W. G. Woodward.

GOLF.

WAIHI V. PAEROA. [BY TELEGRAPH OWN correspondent.] Paeroa, Monday. A golf match was played at Paeroa. on Saturday between representatives of Waihi and Paeroa, the result being a win for Paeroa by three points. The Paeroa ladies won all their games, while of the nine games for gentlemen Waihi won five, Paeroa three, and one finished all square. The scores were as follows:— Gentlemen: McCormick (Waihi) beat Daw (Paeroa), 13 up; Dock (Waihi) beat Grimstone (Paeroa), 6 up; Wynvard (Waihi) beat Downey (Paeroa), 3 up ; Gray (Waihi) beat Shaw (Paeroa), 6 up ; Piggin (Waihi) beat Wilson (Paeroa), 8 tip ; McDonald (Paeroa) beat Stuart (Waihi), 7 up; H.inna (Paeroa) heat Jackson (Waihi), 4 up; i Quick (Paeroa) beat Goch (Waihi), 1 up; Noakes (Waihi) and Meredith (Paeroa),'all square. The first monthly medal tournament in connection with the Cambridge Golf Club was concluded on Saturday, resulting in Messrs. Payze and Caddy tieing for first honours.
