HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Mayor informed the Council that Xc 1 drainage contract was just about complet ed, and on his suggestion it was decided t< notify nrooerty-owners that connection must be made within one month. In reply to a question, the Mayor said h thought it would bo advisable to notify the hospital contractors that extraordinary traffic on the hospital r;--ad' must cease. If the contractors were prepared to defray the cost of making the road passable the Council will reconsider its decision. Mr. Barton said fascines should be put down. Mr. Young took a similar view. It was decided to fascine the road. It was agreed to appoint a committee to consider the question of combining with other local bodies, with a view to obtaining a regular supply of metal. The Mayor moved, "That tho officers of engineer and town clerk Ik; separated, tho services of the engineer to he retained at the pro-sent salary, and that applications be invited for the position of town clerk at a salary of £160 per annum." Ho considered that, in view of the large works in hand, matters should he so arranged as to allow Mr. Sims to devote all his time to engineering work. The motion was carried unanimously.
