THE FORD SHIPPING LINE.
EXTENSION OF THE FLEET. A somewhat important shipping deal took place this week, the Ford Skipping Line, Limited, having purchased the whole of Mr. George T. Niocol's fleet of scows, including one now building. The Ford Line will now consist of 12 of the most modern, and up-to-date timber-carrying scows, which are all well and favourably known in Auckland for their quick passages and general efficiency for the timber trade. The vessels purchased include the Curlew, Gannett, Seagull, Ranger, and Moa (now building. Tho Ford Line have contracted with the Kauri Timber Company for the carriage of all their timber from coast ports to Auckland for a number of years, including the towage of logs. Arrangements have been made with the Devonport Steam Ferry Company to carry out the towing part of the contract. It is interesting to note that since the visit of the Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister for Marine, to Auckland, some time ago, there lias been renewed confidence manifested in the scow class of vessel. Whilst in Auckland, Mr. Millar, after personal inspection and inquiry as to the scows, stated that he was perfectly satisfied as to their safety, and that his opinion of them had been decidedly altered.
