'-.Unsuitable Lodginghousen: The district ' : ..'o health--officer reported that two lodging- ' houses in Wyndham-street and.one each in ',' . Durham and Albert Streets were unsuitable ,'V'I for the purpose. The sanitary inspector '{' advised that'the places referred to did not '■' come within tbo scope of the present by"laws, but the Council had power under sec-V"',;,-tion 10 of the Municipal Corporations Act • Amendment Act to mako by-laws dealing \ with lodginghousos. The recommendation ./ of the Finance Committee that such by-laws .-. bo made- was agreed to.

Khyber Pass Sewer: In response to an > application made for extension of seweri • from Cemetery Gully to Khyber Pass Road It the Streets Committee recommended that ti a sewer be laid from tho Cemetery Gully ; north of East-street to Symonds-street, and -the sower in Khyber Pass between Burleigh-, . street and Symonds-strect bo diverted into that running: down Symonds-street, at a coat of £250, the applicant (Mr. C. A. La "Roche) to bo asked to contribute towards ''tho cost. This was agreed to. Pousonby Rcservoii: The Streets Com- ' mittee reported having considered tho ad- , visibility, of obtaining a site for a reservoir to replace tho one damaged some time ago, and recommended that they bo given power to act. Tho recommendation was approved. ,• Compensation Claim: Tho Kauri Timber : Company's claim of £4000 for loss of riparj; ian rights at Waitakerei was referred to the . Mayor, with power to engago expert evi- ' dence.

. Wood-street: It was reported by the .Streets Committee that the- Hon. J. A. Tole 1 had agreed to accept £175 in satisfaction of claim for compensation for land required from Tolo's estate in connection with widening Wood-street. This was con- '. .firmed.

v '.Works Authorised: The engineer was .'.. authorised to erect a galvanised iron fence ■.■ .in Patteson-strcct and put down two per- .-,, manent crossings at a cost of £110; to V;" round off the north-cast corner of Karanga- : .' hapo Road and Ponsonby Road, at a cost of " £65; to carry out repairs in Lichficld-street; j '.to kerb and channel George-street, at a cost of £140; and to make roadway in. Drake- ■ street, at a cost of £120. Custom-street West: In regard to the Harbour Board's proposal to widen Custom-1 ;,street West and pay half the cost of compensation awarded to the lessees, providing ;:r,the -Council undertook the necessary steps '}<:■ forthwith to acquire tho land and tho re- ..;,'. moval of the morgue, tho Streets Commit-■/-!v '»,recommended that the Council pay half ,_,. the tost of setting back the buildings to the - 'jew line and remove the morgtio to the V instructor site. Tho Mayor suggested that i; tllo .proposed alterations to the morgue bo «irriod out at once, and the Harbour Board , '« informed that; on providing a suitable site tho morgue would bo removed.
