Mr. C. J. Pair was, at the meeting of the Auckland City Council last evening, granted a month's leave of absence, it being his intention to leave on Monday for a holiday trip to Queensland.

Mr. John Holmes, barrister and' solicitor, and at oue time a member of Parliament for a Christchureh constituency (says a Christdhureh Press Association telegram), died on Wednesday, at the age of 69.

The Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), who returned to Wellington from Potorua on Tuesday, was not well enough to go out cm Wednesday. Yesterday .he was a little better, but he is still obliged to remain indoors.

A cable message wjs received in Auckland yesterday stating that Mr. F. C. Endean," of Auckland, had passed his second examination at, Guy's Hospital, London, as M.R.C.S. Mr. Endean, who is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Endean, will remain in London for the next two years to complete his studies.

Miss H. V. Menzies, only daughter of Mr. John Menzies, Remuera, was married to Mr. H. Ferguson, of Cambridge, at St Andrew's Church, on Wednesday. 'Hie Rev. Scott, of Mangere, officiated. 'Hie bride was attired in a cream silk voile, and also wore a. tulle veil over a coronet of orange blossoms. Miss Rosie Hellaby and Miss Pearl Ferguson acted as bridesmaids, and Messrs. Robin Ferguson and .Neil Menzies attended the bridegroom.'
