THE WAIKATO SHOW.

Winter shows are a new departure in the Province of Auckland, but practical demonstration is proving that the time has come when they can be instituted in favourable centres with certainty of success. The results of the Auckland Winter Show were most encouraging to the promoters, nor are those attained by the Waikato Winter Show at Hamilton one whit less marked. Comparatively speaking, the Hamilton event is even more gratifying than that of Auckland City, for it proves that a great and populous city is no more needed to sustain a winter show than for a summer one. The Waikato is the leading dairying district of the province, though it by no means relies upon dairying alone for its agricultural pre-emi-nence, as is being shown by the Hamilton displays. We do not doubt that the example set by Auckland and Hamilton will have a most beneficial influence upon other centres. It is as probable as it is desirable that a series of these exhibitions will hereafter break the agricultural monotony of the winter season in this province, particularly if pains are taken at the commencement to organise every show upon sound and attractive lines. An exchange of experiences among those interested is therefore very necessary, and we would suggest that steps be taken to provide for this as early as possible. The Auckland management not only did good work, but learned a very great deal, which is certain to be true of the Waikato management also. The greatest compliment which can be paid to enthusiastic promoters of these public advantages is to desire that the shows should be made annual events, and this. is the universal sentiment.
