TARIFF COMMISSION'S REPORT. By Telegraph Press Association.—Copyright. London, July 1. The Tariff Commission's report on the glass trade, which has just been issued, shows that 27 firms, employing over one thousand hands, have ceased work in the Tyne and Wear districts, though they had the raw materials at their doors, through foreigners having protected their market, and having a free British market.
The Tariff Commission was established to examine- Mr. Joseph Chamberlain's fiscal proposals and to report on (a) their probable effect on present conditions, _ (b) whether any (and if so, what.) modifications* aro desirable, (c) the best way in which conflicting interests, should there be such, can be harmonised, and (d) what duties, if any, should bo recommended. Mr. Chamberlain is honorary president of the Commission.
