Owing to II ho improved weather prevailing that evenling, the attendance was very large, and • the financial result was highly satisfactory. The supper tables wore most, artistically arranged, and reflected great credit upon the tasto displayed by the members of the Ladies' Committee in the arrangements made. The music was of an exceptionally high class, the nmsiciaua being Messrs. Levy and Haggstrom. The joint secretaries and master of ceremonies, Messrs. A. Waddel and W. Sheppard, .spared no efforts to make the function a success. Owing to unforeseen circumstances audi unfavourable weather, the proposed visit of the AJanukau-'famaki Canal Promotion 1 Association to the route, of the projected canal did not take place on Saturday, being postponed to a more favourable occasion. The soiree promoted by the local corps of the Salvation Army was regrettably interfered with by the inclement weather. A bountiful display of eatables was provided, but the number of people present, was only moderate. A good miscellaneous programme was afterwards gone through.
