SUGGESTED AMERICAN VISIT.
THE gamp; ON THE PACIFIC COAST. ' [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRE3POSDEXT.] Wellington, Saturday. Some time ago Mr. George Dixon, chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union, received a private letter from the secretary of the British Columbia Rugby Union in reference to the question of a New Zealand team visiting. the Pacific Coast. Mr. Dixon replied giving certain information and suggesting that the Columbia Union should approach the New Zealand Union officially. Another letter has been received by Mr. Dixon from Mr. R. Woodward, secretary of the British Columbia Union, who states that it would be impossible to write the executive of the New Zealand Union officially by the outgoing mail, as just about that."time a proposal had been received from a representative of the Queensland Union stating the willingness of that body to send over a team in October to tour British Columbia and California. By next mail, says the Post, Mr. Woodward hopes to have definite word in reference to the scheme. In the event of its failure the Columbia Union will at once communicate with New Zealand for a team for the end of September, 1908. The letter concludes:—"l will write you further next mail re developments, and will also supply you with detailed information." The same correspondent, in another letter, stated that by the s.s. Manuka, leaving Vancouver on May 24, Messrs. J. F. Lanagan, G. F. Pressley,_ and Palmer, of Stanford University, California, would be leaving for .Sydney. These gentlemen were being sent out by the faculty of the Univer-. sity to see Rugby as it should be played, and their favourable report will doubtless mean the permanent adoption of the Rugby code in its entirety. The visitors intend to' spend practically all their time in New. Zealand. -. '•;';-. ; ~.-■•■-.■ ".-■'..-:. -. ; ,', MATCH AT PAEROA. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT,] '. The Referees' Association has considered the letter sent to- the Rugby Union complaining of the refereeing in the Dunedin University match. They unanimously re-, solved that the Rugby Union be asked to" call upon the University Club for the withdrawal of .the club's letter, and at the same time "demand a written apology to the referee, Mr. H. White, and to the committee of the association. Failing such apologybeing made the association will decline to appoint- referees for future matches played-' by* the; University Club. , \
