BILLIARDS.
DEVOTEES of the green cloth will no doubt assemble in considerable numbers at the Royal Albert Hotel this evening, to witness tbe opening exhibition of billiards by Mr. H. W. Stevenson. Mr. Stevenson, although a comparatively young man, is universally conceded to "be the world's greatest cueist, and in professional' tournaments is always handicapped to give a long start to even the men who nave been recently compiling breaks up to 24,000 by means of the celebrated " anchor cannon." This shot, which was a few days ago barred by the British Billiard Association, was discovered since Mr. SteTenson left England, but he proposes to-night to give those present an opportunity of witnessing the manner in which the balls are got into position, and will then demonstrate the shot by making a few hundred cannons. At recognised all-round billiards. Mr. Stevenson is the holder of all records. This- evening Mr. J. Jackson, a local professional, will play against the champion, receiving a start of 600 in 1000 up. On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings Mr. Stevenson will concede to tho professional. B. Ford, a start of.lloo in 2000 up. The table has been specially made for this exhibition.
