Melbourne, May "&T ' There is considerable anxiety regarding the. mail contract It is considered unlikely '.; that the Federal Government will move further in the matter, and the subject is • to be dealt with at the Premiers' Conference, which opens at Brisbane next week. There is to be a renewal of Mr. Bent's proposal that the Stole Governments shouldguarantee the Australian (section of the -debenture holders, and give £125,000 annually for 10 years, but it is likely to meet with considerable opposition. Mr. Carruthers declines to say anything regarding ? the . matter; Mr. Kidstcu, Premier of Queens- . land, lias declared against it; '■'«• and the . i South Australian, West Australian, andTas-A | manian Premiers are believed to be more ' sympathetic. i Others of the principal questions .to be '■■■ discussed at the Premiers" Conference are the "Braddon blot," and the appointment 'of State Governors.
