AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.
THE Auckland Harbour Board met in committee yesterday afternoon, those . present being Messrs. G. W. Basley (in the chair), W. E. Hutchison, A. J. Entrican, J. Kneen, W. J. Napier, H. -D. Heather, O. C. Dacre, H. Bradney, d. B. Macfarlane, A. Keyes, and Captain McKenzie. On the recommendation of the engineer, it was decided to • accept [ the tenders of the following firms for material for supplying water on the RailwayWharf:— hydrant valves, A. and T. Burt; one 6in meter, J. Baid; cast-iron pipes, bends, crosses, and tees, J. Chambers and Son; loose flanges, A. and T. Burt; W.I. galvanised pipes, couplings, bends, and tees,! J. Burns and- Co. It was .also decided, oil the recommendation of the engineer, to reclaim .a small area at the eastern end of the sheer legs reclamation at Calliope Dock, at a cost of £924. It was resolved to ask the City. Council to reduce the price on water for the supply, of. shipping to Is 6d 1000 gallons. ■ The committee adjourned to inspect the site which J. Wilson and Co. wished to occupy on the western side of the Hobson-street reclamation. On resuming again, it was decided, after discussion, to grant Wilson and Co.'b application, subject to their giving up possession after six months' notice that such j land was required for public purposes. The rental was fixed at £150 per annum.
