AUCKLAND DAIRYMEN'S ASSOCIATION.

I SUCCESSFUL YEAR'S WORK. j The annual meeting of members of the |Auckland Provincial Dairymen's Association was" held last evening, advantage" bejing taken by the large number of dairymen;' in Auckland in connection with the Winter [Show. There"was a large attendance, and Mr. D. J. McGowan {president) occupied, 1 the chair. - j' ! Annual Report: The secretary (Mr. Hill) ! submitted the annual report. It stated i [that the position disclosed .would be satis-; [factory, and the report would be incomplete [without reference to the indefatigable •grader.. (Mr. A. A. Thornton). At the j 'grading conference held in April, 1906, this] |gentleman undoubtedly saw the scope for' j united action , and proposed that an association be. formed, the details to be arranged: by a committee then appointed. From that day to the present they had been l 'forging ahead. They were also fortunatei in having as president Mr. D. J. McGowan, I and those gentlemen grappled with the first; j problem in a masterly manner. The Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Summer j ! Show was a failure in previous years as far | ,as factory butter exhibits was concerned, and the association determined to remove the blot on our butter-producing province, and with very satisfactory results, for in : 11905 only six cases of factory butter were I exhibited, as against 106 cases in ,1906. i [On the associations representations the . j Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral! i Association decided to hold a Winter Show,, the association agreeing to provide certain moneys for prizes and assist in getting entries. Their efforts were successiul, for not only was the Summer Show eclipsed, but a record for any show in the, colony established. There were 157 boxes entered for the factory classes, 18 boxes --for-farmer's separator, and-13 boxes fancy- [ class, making a total of 188 boxes of butter, and 30 cases of cheese. An increase from six boxes to 204 for two shows in the same year, and all accomplished within twelve months, was something to feel proud of. The committee decided to give £20 to the prize fund for the Summer Show and at a later meeting agreed to donate a similar amount to the Winter Show: fund. The amount necessary was in hand. Nov. that these two sections were firmly established the committee were, of opinion that the. Agricultural and Pastoral Association would take the responsibility of providing all prize moneys, as their limited resources would be unduly taxed by the allocation of such a large sum, to them, yearly. The membership stood at 75, but a large increase next year, was i hoped'for.- During the journeying around the province in the past year the secretary endeavoured to push the association's claims on those eligible for membership, and he had ".been delighted with - the enthusiasm displayed over the possibilities of the association, j The receipts for "the period ending April 130 totalled £53 4s (ordinary subscriptions), and £11 3s, which had -been received since the balance-sheet was made out for the Winter Show fund. Payments to the extent of £44 9s 9d were made, leaving; a credit balance at the bank on May 1 of £19 7s 3d. The expenditure next year would be much •, less. - In . moving the adoption of the' report . and balance-sheet the president said the members must be congratulated on the success of their first year. The . work of the association during the year had been mainly devoted to the Summer and Winter Shows. Henceforth they would be in a good position-. The - Winter Show was largely the outcome of / the ' Dairymen's Association, and they had achieved a: record .for the colony. (Applause.) y Mr. 'fait seconded the adoption and it was carried. ► Services of Secretary: Complimentary references were, made-to the services of the secretary and treasurer (Mr. H. ,G. Hill) for his work during the , year. It. was said, that the ' position' of:., the association was, mainly due to the energy; and. enthusiasm displayed by Mr. Hill. . On th& .motion ~of Mr. , Elliott, seconded by Mr. ait, ah ' honorarium Of £5 was voted Mr. Hill. Winter Show: ■ The President reported that the association had asked the A. and P. Association to. allow, the members of the Dairymen's Association iree„,,admission to the Winter Show in ; consideration of the assistance they had rendered: The Dairymen's Association had contributed £45 to the ' A. and P. Association's funds, and had practically worked up the Winter . : Show. In . response to a member's request, the letter from the secretary of the A. and P. Association was read. Mr. Hall (secretary) said the A. and P. Association regretted that the request could not be /complied ' with. The president said' he did • - ..not-;;, think they should pass""'a" resolution ..-in - the matter. The A. and ;P. -Association- were ; already sorry for their action, and if the - request went before them again they would , grant it.- • -..the*-meeting' of > the A;, and P. Association, lie explained it was only a trifling matter, and 30 passes only would be required. Mr. A. Campbell , said the A. and P. Association had completely ignored the part' taken in promoting the show by the Dairymen's Association. He moved to the effect that' the meeting express its dissatisfaction at the , action of the A. arid P. Association, and that the secretary be instructed to ask for some concession to be given to members, of the association for the summer and winter shows. 'He regarded shows as rendezvous for all fanners. • Mr. Sinclair seconded the motion.- After discussion, the motion .was carried. '""_ r •' Election of Officers: The election of officers for the ensuing . year resulted as follows : President, Mr. D. J. McGowan (reelected); vice-presidents', Messrs. A. Bevins, J. Adams, A. E.
