A SUCCESSFUL INDUSTRY,
NEW ZEALAND PAPER. MILLS • COMPANY. . ; [BT TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] ■'■;■"'"■;"' J,.\ . ( At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Paper Mills Company, held this afternoon, the chairman said the past year showed distinct progress. Though the local market showed an increased supply of raw material, this had been more than absorbed by the increased output.* Consequently, the company had to draw heavily on the English, Continental, and Asiatic markets for wood pulp, jute, etc. It was hoped that some of these would fall in value in the near' future, and so materially assist the company.; The paper bags shown with the sweated industries' exhibit gave an idea of the competition that had to be faced. The aim of the directors, however, was to turn out a first-class article, and, with the support of the public, the industry would be helpful to many workers. No fears need be entertained for the success of the company in the future. , The report and balance-sheet were adopt; ed, and the retiring directors were re-elected. An alteration in the articles of association was agreed to, providing for the payment of £300 per annum to the, directors, or such j additional sum as the shareholders in the general meeting may determine.
