RIOTS IN SOUTHERN FRANCE.
FAILURE OF WINE-GROWING
INDUSTRY.
A TOWN; HALL BURNED.
By Telegraph.—Frees Association.—Copyright.
Paris, May 20. There is much local distress in the vineyard districts in the South of France. It is due to over-planting and to the practice in other parts of France of adulterating the wines. At Beziers there has, been some noting. The Mayor took steps to obstruct a demonstration of the people in distress, and in the disorder that followed the town hall was set on fire and destroyed. *
Beziers is a town of 45,000 people, beautifully situated on the slope of a hill.
