The ; Franco-Japanese alliance has been received profound satisfaction in Russia. - - (Received May 13, 10.1 p.m.) London, May 13. In connection with Japan's treaties with Great Britain and France, for the maintenance of the status quo in the Orient, the fact that Japan tacitly ignores Germany in the matter, on the ground that she is merely the lessee or tenant of ' Kiao-chau, is causing bitterness in Berlin. The Tokio correspondent 'of the Times says the Franco-Japanese entente has been joyfully welcomed in Japan. In January, 1898, Germany obtained from China a 99 years' lease of Kiaochan. The area of the protectorate is 200 6quare miles, and the population 20,000. This is her only "possession" in the Far East.
