" VESSELS DELAYED AT ONEHUNGA. The stormy weather which prevailed along - the -west coast on Saturday and, Sunday continued with increased energy throughout Sunday" night and yesterday. ~: When the Northern Company's steamer Rarawa left Onehunga on Sunday afternoon a strong westerly wind was blowing, with a heavy sea running on. the bar, and it was expected that the vessel would experience a rough time in crossing. ■ However, when the . bar was reached, it was found to.be impassable, and the anchor was dropped. During the night the wind got stronger, •while the seas increased in force. • The situation was not improved at nine a.m. yesterday, and furious seas were breaking at the heads. The signal being ; unfavourable, and as there was no chance of getting out, Captain Norbury put about and returned to Onelvcmga; As the day wore on, and there was no abatement of ; the storm, it was decided that the Rarawa should remain at her moorings until tomorrow, and then resume her usual running if possible. From the signal-station ; the information was obtained that an angry sea was breaking as far out ;as could be seen with the "glasses, while a heavy gale t Was blowing hard from the west. In the circumstances the Takapuna did '■" ; not leave the wharf at three p.m., as timel-' tabled,' but will depart at nine o'clock this morning, a passenger train leaving Auck- ■ • land at twenty minutes past eight, to con;:;;"V; nect with the steamer. <v ■;'/", : t. , In addition to the Rurawa • and Takapuna, the Kia Ora, for Raglan, Kawhia, ■ ;' and Waitara, and the Muritai, for OpuV sake and Wanganui, were also obliged to postpone their trips.
