THE TARANAKI SEAT.
INTERESTING CONTEST PROMISED.

New Plymouth, Sunday. 1 The contest for the Taranaki seat is becoming exciting, each side , having all its forces marshaled. Mr. Massey (Leader of the Opposition) and the Hon. J. Carroll (Native Minister) are in .the district addressing meetings on behalf of Messrs. Olcey and Doekrill respectively. The feature-of the campaign has been that large audiences have met the candidates everywhere. On Monday night Mr. Carroll will speak in the Theatre Royal, and Mr. Masse- will address a meeting in the Drill Hall. Mr. Malone, Independent Liberal candidate; will possibly address a meeting after Mr. Carroll. Locally, Mr. Dockrill's chances* of election are favoured, although the Government vote will be split. :
