TE KUITI RAILWAY SERVICE.
[FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] • The cry for greater railway facilities at To Kuiti, which has been heard for a long time, is at last to be answered. A party of officials, including Messrs. Ronaync (general manager), Mcintosh (district engineer), and Waits (district traffic manager), arrived on Wednesday by special train on a visit of inspection, and as a result quite a number- of improvements are announced. It has been, discovered that the station yard and station are too small, and more accommodation will be required for shunting. A statiomnasler will arrive within the next few weeks, and an extra train will be .run to and from Te Kuiti daily. This means that the train. which at present leaves Te Awarnutu at half-past eight a.m. and arrives at Auckland at half-past two p.m. will start from Te Kuiti instead of Te Awamutu. The new time-table is to be inaugurated at '.he beginning of July, and all the preliminary improvements will require to be completed by that date. • The extra train has been long agitated for, and will be a great boon to King Country residents. Under present conditions people from this district wishing to attend the Waikato markets had to stop overnight and lose two days. Under the new times-table it will be possible to accomplish the same trip easily in one day. Moreover, . the amount of business done .at Te Kuiti station is very large and is rapidly increasing, and special trains are already a daily occurrence.
