London; May 10. The Chief Secretary for Ireland, Mr. Augustine Birrell, has promised that no preference under the Irish measure shall be permitted to any religious denominations.
The Nationalist members of the House of Commons have given notice to ask for information concerning the religious beliefs of the Irish Privy Councillors and Land Commissioners, as well as the name and occupation of 666 deputy-lieutenants.

Mr. Birrell's Bill has been printed. The Nationalists like it less than ever owing to the restrictions and reservations it contains. The Spectator objects to the f handing over of £650,000 to foster- Nationalist ideas.
