THE SQUADRON. . The flagship Powerful and H.M.S. Prometheus; Encounter; and Pioneer, left Wellington for Auck- [ land on Saturday morning and are expected to arrive to-day. , — THE MANAPOURI. The Union Company's steamer Manapouri is due from Wellington to-night and leaves for the Cook and Society Islands at noon on Wednesday. VESSELS SIGHTED. Captain Chrisp, of the s.s. Hauroto, which arrived from the Islands on Saturday, reports passing the mission steamer John Williams, bound to Rarotonga, on May 6. The same date a large four-masted barque, bound to tho westward, was also sighted, but too far off to make out her identity. THE SQUALL. The Union Company's steamer Squall, Captain Gregory, arrived Irom Gisborne and Tolago Bay at. 3.30 a.m. yesterday and berthed at iueenstreet Wharf. The steamer left Gisborne at 2.45 а.m. on the 10th inst. and railed at Tolago Bay. Passed Cape Runaway at 8.23 p.m. the same day and arrived as above. Experienced heavy westerly winds until passing Cape Runaway, thence "a strong westerly gale to arrival. The steamer brought 60 ton« of general cargo for this port. THE TALUNE. . The Union Company's steamer Talune, Captain G. Holford, arrived from Westport at 12.45 a.m. yesterday and berthed at the Hobson-street Wharf. The steamer left Westport at 8.20 p.m. i -on Thursday last and passed Cape. .Maria Van Die- ; men at 7.50 a.m. on Saturday, arriving as above. | Experienced strong south-westerly winds, .vitli high seas, throughout the passage. The Talune leaves for Fiji on Wednesday next. " ' ! THE WAIRUNA. - The Union Company's steamer Wniruna, Captain Jordan, arrived from Westport with a cargo of coal at- 8 a.m. yesterday and berthed at. Queenstreet Wharf. The. Wairuna left Westport on Thursday night last and passed Cape Maria Van Diemen at 10.57 p.m. on Saturday, arriving off Raugitoto at 4.30 a.m. yesterday. Owing to thick weather in the channel the steamer dropped anchor for about two hours, making port as above. Strong south-west winds and showery weather were met with throughout the voyage. THE PELOTAS. The barquenline Pelotas arrived at Whangarei from Whangaroa yesterday in tow ot the s.s. pelican"to load timber for Australia. THE MANUREWA. Advices from South Australia report that the barque Manurewa, Captain Nilssen, completed her loading of salt on May 2 at Edithburg, South Australia. and was ready to sail for Auckland. From this port the barque goes on to Kaipara to load timber for an Australian port. THE MIOWERA. The Union Company's steamer Miowera arrived from Southern and East Coast potts at 4.15 p.m. • yesterday and berthed at Quay-street Jetty No. 2. The steamer left Dunedin on Tuesday last, and called at the usual way ports, leaving Gisborne at 3.40 p.m. on Saturday. Strong < north-north-west winds and heavy sea prevailed from the East Cape to arrival. The Miowera leaves for Sydney at 5.30 p.m. to-day. THE HAUROTO. 'Die Union Company's steamer Hauroto, Cap- , tain A. D. Chrisp, arrived from the Society and Cook Islands on Saturday. The steamer left Auckland on April 16 and reached Rarotonga on the 23rd. Left the same evening and called at Raiatea, Papeete. Huahine,' Aitutaki, Mangaia, and Rarotonga,' .finally leaving the latter island on May 3 and arriving as above. Experienced strong winds and, seas to the 19th, thence ] light winds and moderate seas to arrival off Rarotonga. Fine weather was experienced among the group, which continued until departure from Rarotonga on the 3rd, when heavy head winds and seas were met with, which lasted up to the 9tli, greatly retarding the ship's speed; thence smooth sea's and fine weather to arrival. V " THE LOTTIE MENZEL.' The German cargo steamer Lottie Menzel put in • an unexpected appearance,at Auckland on Saturday morning, being bound from Coronel (Chili) to Newcastle in ballast. The steamer left the Chilian port .on April 5 and met with ordinary weather until about 10 days ago, when she encountered strong gales from the south-east and east, with high seas, and as the coal supply was getting short it was decided to run into Auckland to replenish the bunkers. The steamer resumed her voyage to Newcastle on Saturday night. THE CAPE ANTIBES. . The steamer Cape Antibes, Captain McDonald, arrived from Ocean Island yesterday with a cargo of phosphates. The steamer left the island at 5 p.m. on April 29 and met with easterly winds and fine weather up to May 5. followed by moderate south-south-east winds and smooth seas, until the Bth, when the wind freshened into a moderate, gale, with very rough seas, continuing until arrival. '; : v ~ THE APARIMA. ' The Union Company's steamer Aparima, Captain Edward Stott, arrived from the East late on Friday night, and, being granted pratique, berthed at the Queen-street Wharf to discharge her cargo of general merchandise. The steamer left. Calcutta on March 31, and called at Singapore, where a fire took place on board, particulars of which will be found elsewhere in this issue.' ;. This detained the steamer until April 17, when she left for Samarang, leaving that port on the 20th for Auckland direct-.' All tho way from Samarang the Aparima had to contend against a continuance of strong south-east winds, rough seas, and frequent rain squalls. The weather was exceptionally thick coming .through. Torres . Straits, and speed had to be reduced on several occasions. On approaching the New- Zealand coast on Thursday very thick weather set in and continued down the coast to arrival. The Aparima leaves for Wellington and the South about Thursday next. THE WAIKARE. The Union Company's steamer Waikare, Captain C. McDonald, arrived from Sydney at 7.25 p.m. yesterday, and, being granted pratique, berthed at the Queen-street Wharf. Sir. Williams, the purser, reports that the steamer left Sydney at б.30 p.m. .on Wednesday last, passed Cape Maria Van Diemen at. 3.40 a.m. yesterday, and arrived as above. ' ■ Experienced moderate southerly winds and swell for the first- two days of the passage, thence fresh soutb-we9t winds and heavy swell to arrival. The Waikare leaves for East Coast and Southern ports -to-morrow afternoon. THE PERU. The barque Peru arrived at Nelson from London vesterday. This vessel' was recently purchased by Messrs. J. J.
