Business on tho local fruit and produce markets has' been only fairly brisk during the past week, and to-day the produce markets were remarkably dull and were throughout \ heavily stocked. Owing to the importations of Tasmanian potatoes being hi excess of requirements, the market* was blocked and ' sales generally were only effected at and under cost, with no profit to the importer. The quality of the shipments throughout was excellent. What few Southerns came to hand were in an. unsatisfactory .condition, whilst local supplies were of poor quality and were unsalable. The onion market was 'flooded with poor, inferior, and growing lota; which could not be quitted at auction. All prime samples to hand sold at last week's rates. Grain and fodder was in plentiful supply, but values were unchanged. In dairy produce the market was decidedly weaker for butter.' Fresh '.eggs were scarce' at late values, whilst a fair number of. farmers' pickled were sent in to a poor' demand. Clteece, bacon, and hams were unaltered in value. Poultry was, in heavy supply and generally of a satisfactory quality, .and realised good prices. Young pigs wore sent forward in email numbers, but the demand was about equal and is now easing off.
