The Secretary for India (Mr. John Morley), replying to Mr. 'Balfour in the House of Commons yesterday, said the Government of India, in response to a request from Sir Dcnzil Ibbetson, local Governor of the Punjaub, had issued a warrant for * the arrest and deportation to smother province of two very promin- • ent agitators named Romesh and Chunder. • Professor Duff, Lecturer on Indian History .at University College, London, in a letter to a Bombay newspaper, attributes the unrest in : India to a belief prevalent among the ignorant classes that the Govern- ' ment is ready to support the Mohammedans against the Hindoos. He urges the Government to take most vigorous repressive action, as he considers the situation graver than it has been for many years. The correspondent of the Daily Telegraph at. Allahabad says that the aim of the Hindoo agitators is to create a panic in England,'. with a view -to extorting concessions. ' (Received May 10. 11.53 p.m.) Calcutta, May JO. Hajpatria, a prominent ringleader in the .Lahore disturbances, lias been deported. A second ringleader, for whom the police, are seeking, is in hiding. The garrison of Lahore has been strongly reinforced, owing to the increased unrest and the . large num.
