Markman, manager for Briscoe and Co., Limited, Wellington, who is ' about to take up a similar position in the v firm's Auckland house, was presented with a gold watch from the staff on leaving (telegraphs our Wellington correspondent). Mr. Evans, general manager for the. North Island, made the presentation on behalf, of {/.' the staff. . • Amongst the passengers to- Wellington; by the Ruapehu, on Wednesday, was the Rev. James Holmes, a Congregational minister, who has brought his wife and family (two sons and two daughters) out to New Zealand with the intention of settling on the land. Mr. Holmes was obliged to relinquish his work at Home in .the interests of '. the health of his youngest daughter. During the later ; ''. term of his ministry in England, Mr. Holmes. ', was assistant to the Rev. Silvester Home, •of Whitfield Tabernacle, London. Mr Holmes proposes to - - settle in Gisborne.
